7.“Wild thoughts” by Dj khaled (June 16th)
“Wild Thoughts” kicks off with a bang and that instantly-recognizable Santana guitar melody, before segueing into Rihanna’s low, compelling vocals and Tiller’s verses. It feels like a spiritual successor to last year’s hits “Work” and “One Dance” — but swapping those songs’ dancehall vibes for Santana’s guitar. Either way, it’s an intoxicating bop guaranteed to heat things up.
6.“Humble” by Kedrick Lamar (March 30th)
“Humble” debuted at number two and later peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Lamar’s first number one and highest-charting single as a lead artist
Feminists have debated over the second verse of the song, which states: “I’m so f*** sick and tired of the Photoshop / Show me something natural like afro on Richard Pryor …/ ” claiming that Lamar’s attempt at body-positivity unintentionally puts other women down(smh) you love the jam or nah!
5.“Mask off” by Future(May 5th)
“Mask Off” peaked at number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 for the week of May 6, 2017, becoming Future’s highest-charting overall single on the chart. The song had spent a total of eight weeks on the chart. We must agree this jam was and is still fire!
4.”I’m the One” by DJ Khaled (April 28th)
With features from industry heavyweights like Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper, Lil Wayne, and Quavo, it’s no surprise this track shot straight up to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 when it dropped last year but till now I’m certain that this banger is still choice is many guys’ playlists!
3.“Perfect” by Ed sheeran (August 21st)
The song is a romantic ballad written about his girlfriend Cherry Seaborn, whom he knew from school and reconnected with when she was working in New York. In March 2017, Sheeran broke the record set by Frankie Laine in 1953, occupying all of the top five positions in the United Kingdom, and placing nine songs in the top ten of the UK Singles Chart.
2.“Despacito” by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee, ft. Justin Bieber (April 16th)
What happens when you take a bonafide Latin hit and give it a Spanglish remix with the Biebs as a guest star? You get the first top ten mostly-spanish song on the Billboard Hot 100 since the Macarena in 1996! “A refrain so easy, so memorable, everyone from your three year old to your grandmother ended up singing it all year.”!
1.“Mans not hot!” by Big Shaq (October 26th)
Michael Dapaah, aka Big Shaq’s, “Mans Not Hot” has been an integral cog in the pop culture machine of 2017. You’ll hardly find a party where the song isn’t played and the crowd usually goes crazy when it gets to “the ting go skrrra, pa-pa-pa-pa-pa.”
“Mans Not Hot” has seen huge success since its release, with over 18 million streams in addition to about 20 million YouTube views on both the original Fire In The Booth freestyle and the music video. Damn! this banger deserves the number one spot.
